big wedding to small elopement
Destiny and Matt initially contacted me about shooting their traditional wedding. A couple months into the planning I got a note from Destiny that it was all too overwhelming and that they were ditching the big plans to elope in Big Sur. To say I was excited was an understatement and I'm sure I can say the same about them.
They got ready in a little cabin in the heart of Big Sur. A stream flowing past not too far away. Destiny's cousin helped her with hair and makeup then said goodbye so the two could have their day together. Matt picked out the spot for the ceremony and scattered flowers where they would be standing. They exchanged vows under the majestic Redwood trees. Just the two of them, the minister and myself.
After the ceremony they asked if they would go in the stream for some photos, of course! This is your day, you can do whatever the heck you want. So for the next couple of hours we drove the California coast taking photos wherever they wanted. I loved stepping back and just watching them soak it all in. They didn't have cell phone service to get stressed out by any questions, there wasn't really a timeline that demanded they stay on schedule. It was just the two of them, the ocean and the redwoods.
The ended the evening at the Big Sur Bakery, where they had the entire place to themselves. The twinkle lights providing a romantic atmosphere as they ate, drank, and danced the night away.
